The Intruder, A P, And The Bass, The River And Soul

â€Å"Some of the best lessons we ever learn are learned from past mistakes. The error of the past is the wisdom of the future (Dale Turner).† This quote is about the theme of learning from your mistakes which are used commonly in adolescent stories. Our adolescent years is where we experience various lessons which help shape what we think when we are older and without a doubt the lesson of learning from your mistakes is a crucial one and one we all have experienced in our own lives. Some specific stories that incorporate this theme are â€Å"The Intruder†, â€Å"AP†, and â€Å"The bass, The River and Sheila Mant†. This quote displays that Kenneth doesn t want to live in his wild imagination anymore and he doesn t want to make the same mistake again. Kenneth throwing the rifle into the creek symbolizes Kenneth learning from his mistakes and him getting rid of the terror that the rifle will now bring him whenever he uses it. â€Å"The Intruder† is a great example of the lesson of learning from your mistakes because in the story Kenneth makes a devastating mistake, he realizes it, he learns from it and most importantly he does something so it won t happen again. The second story that helps support the thesis statement is â€Å"A P†. In this story a boy named Sammy, tries to impress a group of girls by quitting his job as the girls were being kicked out of the store where Sammy works. Sammy shortly after quitting realizes the mistake he has made and how is was going to make his life tougher. One quote that displays this lesson is: â€Å"‘Sammy, you don t want to do this to your Mom and Dad,’ he tells me. It s true, I don t. But it seems to me that once you begin a gesture it s fatal not to go through with it.† This quote shows that Sammy doesn t even want to do what he is doing and he knows it s a mistake, but he continues with it anyways.
