Cyberbullying is a Crime-Persuasive Speech â€Å"95% of all teens, ages 12 through 17 are now online...† (Meier). The internet is now a prominent part of the 21st Century society. We are able to communicate with practically anyone, anywhere, instantly, regardless of the distance between us. Electronics and the internet are fast becoming a vital part of our daily lives and this can make them more susceptible to misuse. By using technology, people can communicate anything they want with very few possible consequences, and this allows them to use the internet, and technology in general, to hurt others. The use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person, especially a young person, is called cyberbullying. Unfortunately, our society has let cyberbullying continue, undeterred, which is a crime against moral laws and it should be a crime against federal and all state laws. Bullying, in the traditional sense, is illegal in 44 of the United States and of t hese only 25 states that even mention bullying in the electronic form. Merely 18 states however, include cyberbullying as a state crime (Patchin). A short time ago a friend told me a story about a young girl who had been cyberbullied in high school. This young girl had a falling out with her best friend who she had known since elementary school. They were so close that her friend knew the answer to the security question on her email. Her friend would delete all of her emails and leave cruel messages
